"Please release unspecial Ando"

Or, "I will be in charge of who I am in love with if you don't mind." Those were the key quotes from my evening of tv watching last night. I heart Hiro and Masi Oka, and there was a double feature of him last night (even if he only had about 30 seconds of him in Studio 60) I am liking studio 60 more and more the less they show me the actual sketches. I am more ready to believe a fruit of the loom sketch is funny just by watching the actors struggle in their costumes back stage because my imagination will assign it more potential then the actual sketch may prove to have.

I love Heroes even in lame episodes, and Masi Oka is responsible for a lot of it. "I am special!" was hilarious. He cracks my shit up, and he has a wonderful partner in Ando.

yeah. i'm liking the show? but these past two shows since the restart have been relatively lame. it looks like it's about to pick up again though.

i really don't care for the multiple personality "special ability" of ali larter's though. i could go without seeing her part. i hope sylar gets to her and she dies soon.

hello jen. i don't know you, but we have a common interest. I have always been less than a fan of the Niki storyline, but I noticed in last night's episode that since all storylines are running kind of flat, hers looks better. And my respect for her acting is growing.

I'll be happy when Heroes gets some momentum again as opposed to all this interesting but slow character building stuff.

Hey! I've now talked about Heroes on two blogs!

Yeah, it has been slow, and I am more interested in Ali Larter but mostly because of her acting and not because her story suddenly got better.

i was more of a fan of niki's story when she was the webcam girl...

i will agree that the storylines have been flat, lately. i'm afraid that they know they're going to be around for awhile, and don't want to put too much out there all at once.
but feb. sweeps are next month, which means lots of shit should start happening. or so i hope.

and finally, heather, just like we talked about the other day, again, no show with in a show this week. and from the looks of it, next week too. which is pretty cool. hell, you hardly even saw rehearsal for the shows.

i recognize that, al. that was studio 60. I've never been bothered by the show within the show. At times I think it's really worked. Like when they thought they'd stolen someone else stuff and they kept redoing the news. I think maybe there's a balance to be found that doesn't require them eliminating it entirely.

hey jim. everyone but heather might tell you not knowing me is a pretty good thing! jk.

but yeah. i found myself actually watching her storyline last night--which may have been what prompted my epiphany on the fact that the past few episodes haven't held my interest.

i'm not completely sold on her acting yet. my fave storyline is definitely masi oka's--and no it's not because i'm also asian. haha.

i do however, like to look at mr. professor, peter and isaac. is that wrong of me? it's what they are there for afterall.

Now that I think about it, I think the most attractive male character is probably DL. I don't know why. Peter's too "slick", Nathan's got the poofy hair, Matt and Hiro are too "cute" and Isaac and Mohinder are too similar in appearance, in my opinion.

Which female do I find most attractive you ask? Why, I'd be happy to assert my heterosexuality. Um. It's a tie between Matt's wife and Hiro's too short-term girlfriend. I don't find any of the female leads specifically attractive.

i didn't mean to assert that i didn't like the inclusion of actual studio 60 segments in the show. I'm just glad that the writing is still good enough to not need the sketches to carry the show.
and yeah, the episode with the "stolen" material was awesome.
Heather made a good point the other day. she said that on Sports Night, Sorkin's other show about live entertainment, the focus was still on the behind the scenes stuff, but when the did show "in show" stuff, it's a hell of a lot easier to fake sports scores than to write an actual good sketch.

as far as Heroes Babes, i'm gonna agree with you, Jim, hiro's girl in texas was probably the most attractive all in all. (as i said earlier, though, i didn't mind watching ali larter as webcam girl...)

I just bought Sports Night. I haven't opened it yet, but that's just because once I do, I won't stop watching until I've seen the whole season. I think it's my favorite of Sorkin's series.

I don't disagree with the point that it's easier to fake sports than funny; in fact, I think it goes further than that. Two guys sitting at a desk fades into the background a lot easier than zany characters and loud sets. It's predictable so anything out of the ordinary, anything extra sticks out, while a sketch is completely unpredictable so everyone has to work harder to make the intended story point apparent. Um, what else? This is very interesting. Okay: The success of the show within a show on Sports Night never depended (necessarily) on what they did on stage, while Studio 60, from the beginning, has depended heavily on those sketches being successful. So as a viewer we're more critical of Studio 60 and pay much closer attention. That's all I got for now.

I think I'll crack these dvds open tomorrow. I got a couple days to spare.

Ooh, amen Jim to the success thing, and I did thoroughly enjoy the redo the news show. Again that worked even if the jokes didn't because it was all on Cal and the behind the scenes stuff. (Can I say that I love Cal, but it disconcerts me that he is also Danny but now there is a new Danny made more complicated because new Danny is being played by Josh? My favorite characters need to just stay on the show where they belong and not make me like them on other shows and remember that they are actually real people who are just good actors).

I also find Mohinder and Isaac really, really pretty, but my favorite is probably Jess, I mean Peter Petrelli formerly know as Jess on Gilmore Girls. I do have a thing for skinny boys with dark hair as many of you remember from undergrad.

PS I love the stream of comments we had all going here. Just so all involved know, Jenny is my crazy Laosian friend from high school (who my mom taught when Jenny was in grade school), and Jim and Alan are my friends from undergrad who live in Missouri (Jenny lives in Washington).

One thing I enjoyed about Studio 60 early on was Timothy Busfield. I know it confuses you, Heather, but I think he's one WW Crossover that has done an excellent job creating a new, believable character. Maybe it's just the glasses. Bradley Whitford, however, is distinguishable from Josh, but not a whole heck of a lot.

And I feel the opposite about Milo Ventimiglia. I found the characters he's portrayed in the past to be kind of smarmy, which makes him less attractive now. If I could forget those past jobs, I'd totally want to nail him.

the guy that plays peter's brother, nathan...where have i seen him before. it's been bugging me like crazy and no one i know here has been able to answer that question--and i'm much too lazy to go do my own research. it was probably in passing anyhow. nevermind my question.

yeah. i'm not too impressed with the selection of women. from a female standpoint i guess i'd have to say i like the girl torn between isaac and peter. she'e the hottest in my opinion.

According to IMDB, Nathan is Adrian Pasdar formerly of a few episodes of Desperate Housewives, some Judging Amy, Secondhand Lions, The Pompatus of Love, Carlito's Way, Once Upon A Time in Shanghai, and (his first credit) Top Gun (he played Chipper).

He is also married to a Dixie Chick, the lead singer to be exact.

well hell. i haven't seen any of those shows/movies except for top gun. must have been all the way back from top gun then!

wow...can it be that my memory is REALLY that sterling?
